Saturday, September 26^th. To celebrate the harvest moon, we are teaming up with Graceful Serenity Yoga for a half day retreat hosted here at the farm filled with flower crown crafting using our homegrown ingredients, yoga, herbal teas and a sound bath! Spots are filling up and we are so much looking forward to spoiling whoever comes for a few hours. Register here.

Sunday, October 11^th: “Birds of a Feather”, Mini Market and Music at Loving Farm featuring Nat Lefkoff in collaboration with Presa Ceramics. The food and drinks and entertainment and market are all so exciting. We are 99% sure we will have our favorite face painter here (our niece who just graduated high school!) as well.

Hello Flower Lovers!

Welcome to all of the new people this week and as always, THANK YOU for following along! As a reminder, you can always peep the important dates above and call it a day, if you don’t have the mental energy to ingest our recap of the past few days since the last newsletter. I completely understand how limited our resources can be sometimes. Just for being here, you are automatically entered into a monthly giveaway of something flowery from the farm.

We have leveled up this week! With the upcoming October wedding we are doing, we took Saturday to practice our bouquet making techniques with a harvest of flowers we had to cut for the weekend, some of which were gifted to our niece and Perriee’s mom for their birthdays on Sunday (two of the most important women in our lives). The disco night event ended up getting postponed due to unpredictable weather so we used the flowers we were going to set up for the flower bar for our spirals. We watched an Ellen Frost video on how to create the bouquet with the spiral, something I have been practicing for a bit at this point but was Perriee’s first time trying it. After a few trials and some errors, both of us ended up having some ah-ha moments that pushed our creations to a new level. Honestly, I think most of it was building up some muscle memory for the technique. These were some of our nicest bouquets of the season, I swear! Hopefully we have a nearly equal amount to take to the Bourbon, Boots, and Blues event next Saturday and do it all again.

It was a fantastic week for us at the flower market in Frankfort, having nearly sold half of what we brought as extras for the market floor. The best case scenario would be to pre-list the things we think we could sell to florists and designers so they could order them ahead of time, but we are still struggling with being confident in how many good stems we will have come Monday morning to cut and process, not wanting to over-promise on quality flowers to take on Tuesdays. Because of this, we just cut and package what we have on Monday morning, listing what we can for the last-minute shoppers who browse prior to the 12 pm cut off ordering time and then bring the rest for the shop for customers browsing for blooms to pick up in person. It’s a whole thing.

Our design at the brewery persists! This week, we stopped in Thursday to spruce up the railing and sign, taking some time to forage a bit of sumac and native bamboo directly from the Turtleback Ridge Farm. Sumac is so striking that you can see it so well from a distance that when we went to get it, we found ourselves trekking a bit further off the beaten path than we initially thought. It wasn’t too bad, just funny how it looked so much closer than it ended up being.

We did have some fun this week, seeing Leslie Jones live in Lexington on Friday. It exceeded every expectation I had. Being a 59-year-old black woman in comedy, Leslie really hit home on so many relatable topics. You know, hot flashes and voting and everything in between. She was just perfect! The venue, The Lexington Opera House, was really nice too. It was an early anniversary present to ourselves for hitting “the big 10” this year. I did have a fangirl moment when she (or her social media manager, of course) reposted our selfie from the event. If you need a great audio book, hers is it, as long as you don’t mind a bit of profanity. I was genuinely sad when it was over after listening to the 17 hours of it last year. Seeing her live scratched a bit of an itch!

Our first anniversary was celebrated seeing Jim Gaffigan in Cincinnati and we got to see Tracy Morgan in Buffalo the year after (for free- it is quite a story!). We do love a good comedy show.

Thanks to the amazing person who donated a seed starting rack to the farm this week! Oh my gosh, it is exactly what we needed. It is so cool too because it has a zippable jacket and came with lights. Watch out springtime! We are coming at you hard in 2027.

Pride and Flock Update: The kitties and ducks are great! I however, slipped and fell and busted my butt while delivering some water to the ducks on Friday, nearly derailing above mentioned night out to Lexington. My upper back is sore where I landed the hardest, and the back of my head hit the ground and not the rocks directly next to my landing pad, but I did not break anything, not even skin, so yay for another fall survived! It is always a sobering reminder how quickly things can change with one misstep. Be careful out there people.

Chewy is killing us this month, having to get another bag of dry food for Tux which is $107.00, then we ordered some Friskies for the other cats, having to get two cases of it in order to qualify for the free shipping. THEN the $146.00 autoship hit (not out of the blue, of course, but I totally could have skipped it. I spaced out on it or something). Needless to say, I have canceled the autoship for the time being. It was just a lot of coin real fast for these critters. I am sure someone out there can relate! Cheers to all of the critter caretakers out there.
