As you might have seen we are hosting an intimate event on September 21st to welcome the fall season. Pumpkin Spice should not even be mentioned until then, in my opinion. It is the equinox. Our friend and fellow woman in business, Kristen, is coming to the farm to perform a sound bath in our little corner of Ewing, Kentucky (only and hour and a half from Frankfort, Lexington, Northern Kentucky, and Cincinnati…just sayin). Anyhow, we met Kristen after she moved to the area and ended up joining our garden group that we are in. The garden group is a pretty long list of people on a text chain that sends out a message when someone needs a hand with a task at their place and anyone who can come, will come.

After talking to her, we found out that she teaches yoga AND does sound baths and we have been wanting to have some sort of meditation or yoga here. We asked her if she wanted to collaborate on something so, here we are! It was so much fun hangin’ at her cute little slice of the Earth to talk out the details of this day. I think it is her goal to start hosting from her place in the future so this will be a great chance to connect with some folks in our area (or beyond).
What is a sound bath? Full transparency, neither Perriee or myself have never participated in one so I am going off of what little I know from things I have seen on the internet after a little research. First let me tell you what it is not. It is not a bath that you have to get into. There is no water involved (unless you go to a floating sound bath which Kristen, who is leading ours, also does at other locations) and you don’t have to be “in shape” to participate. There is a slight hill leading down from the driveway to the deck through the grass that you need to walk to, but other than that, there is nothing you have to do but relax when you are here, if that is what you need.

A sound bath is an immersive experience where you are bathed in the sounds of singing bowls that emit deep vibrations that you may feel throughout your body. You will be able to lay or sit, depending on your choice of comfort, and take in the sounds while hopefully letting your mind rest in a meditative state. I don’t know about you but I sure could use a little brain break. Bring your comfy blankets and pillows with you to get as comfy as possible and get into the zone.

The event will be held on the deck that Perriee and I built for just this type of vibe. The deck overlooks the field that will be bursting in the bright yellow colors of goldenrod to send off the summer. September 21st is the fall equinox aka the official switch from summer to fall. There is a spot in the field below, next to the deck where you can rest in the grass on a blanket if you prefer, and there might even be time to take a little stroll through the trails that we maintain and see what cool pollinators are lurking around. We could not even begin to list all of the pretty, fluttery beings that inhabit that space right now.
The night would not be called Flowers and Sound to just come and see what is blooming in our pollinator field, although in my opinion, once you get to see it in its present glory, you would make the drive to see it again for another sound bath experience and peep at nature. This event, collaborating with Kristen, owner of Graceful Serenity Yoga, was specifically created to give our guests a complete sensory experience. To accomplish this, you will also be invited to create a small bouquet or wall hanging out of our home grown, chemical-free flowers. There will be aromatic herbs and varieties of shapes and textures to choose from that will be sure to awaken corners of your brain that have been waiting for you to visit. It can be your reminder through the coming cold months that this beauty of summer is not forever gone. You might even find that the stillness of the dried flowers are a comfort that you did not even know you needed.

Hope to see you there.

PS: We have a limited supply of catnip flower available for $10/jar. Homegrown, chemical-free, kitty approved. Let us know if you need some!

Thank you for adding me to the list! And can you please reserve a jar of catnip for me (actually, for my cats)?
Thanks so much, Marcie
