Dear Flowerers,

Welp, in true “midwest” fashion, we have experienced winter, spring and summer, all in the past week. The tulips have not exploded just yet, although they are definitely budding up and looking like it could be any day now. Yes, we are flower children WITH flower children. It is like being on baby watch! Since we put in the new air conditioner for the Coolbot, we have been keeping eyes on the cooler temp which seems to be holding just fine to receive them all as they come out of the warm soil. It is so exciting! Among all of our exhaustion of the roller coaster of farming that this week served up, Perriee and I reminded ourselves how we are literally living the dream. My feet might call it a nightmare, but my heart is both figuratively and literally happier with all of the activity.

We only listed a few things on the KFM for preorder this week- a few bunches of beautiful, bright yellow daffodils, harvested at the gooseneck state (unopened, but with a full color showing) along with some cherry branches and forsythia that are all being held closed by the cool temps of our new floral cooler. Perriee even snagged one bunch of bridals wreath spirea just as they started to open up. These are definitely one of our favorite, “blink and you miss em for a year”, flowers.

After the snow melted mid-week, we planted 25 trees (10 sumac, 10 button bush and 5 magnolias), 50 astilbe plants, and prepped more space for veggies! In total we seeded 3 trays of lettuce, two trays of marigolds, one tray of statice and a partridge in a…. oh wait…no partridges. The basil looks juicy, cosmos are growing on great and we did up-pot a few lisianthus which happen to have the most beautiful roots on them in spite of their small state. Ya’ll, we even have eggplant growing that looks like something. We have admittedly contracted ourselves to do a hair too much, but if you have ever been addicted to growing plants, you are fully aware of how this happens. You get like, three months to “try again” to grow that thing so there is not much time to waste!

I had to go to Northern Kentucky on Tuesday for a doctor’s appointment so we made a day of it by bringing some wild and crazy forsythia branches to Scarlet Begonia’s and Ronnie’s Corner Market in Covington. Oh my gosh I am so glad we brought it! I think it should be an annual tradition…to gift an unsuspecting acquaintance and enormous bouquet of forsythia. We dropped off an Earth Day flyer at Artmarkit then swung over to Olla for some Tacos. Speaking of, we will be collaborating with Scarlet Begonia’s AND Ronnie’s this summer AND Olla in June and maybe even Artmarkit this year. Supporting them also supports little old us!

The week ended up with Perriee keeping the seedlings alive and by picking daffodils and tulips while I worked at the Kentucky’s Only Road Racing Series in Mt. Olivet at Kat Daddyz and Turtleback Ridge Brewery doing check-in and some traffic control. What a thrill it was to watch all of the groups of riders take off and finish their races and to simultaneously see so many folks come to visit our neck of the beautiful rolling hills of Kentucky from out of the immediate area. I only had a couple of grumps try to bust through my stop sign forcefield on Sunday with their pickup trucks. I made a promise to hold the line for the riders and that was what I did!

Fun fact: In my late 20’s I had my time on the road with a bicycle for a short time. Seeing all of those riders brought back great memories of coasting on some country roads up in Northern Kentucky and Ohio. Now I just want to fix it to ride to the mailbox or pull a wagon of compost around.

Pride Update: The kitties are great and send their love. They have had some great cuddle sessions with the chilly temps early on in the week and have been enjoying the sunshine now that it is summer. I mean, spring! Happy spring everyone!

PS: I don’t use any AI in the writing of these updates. I think you deserve better than that. All of this gobblygook is right outta my brain in my head. Thanks for being here.
