Dear Flowerers,
It was a full week of seeding, planting, weeding, scheming, building and and spending time with amazing people. This might be a long read, but no pressure! I always put the important dates at the top for the “skimmers”.

Turnip seeds should be direct sown by the time this hits your inbox. We seeded some more sunlfowers which are already germinating (RIP to the two trays we tried already- I am proud of us for turning the page on them already), cosmos have been seeded and are already up, and basil seeds are poking out of their trays. Our cut list includes forsythia, nanking cherry, and daffodils!! We even harvested forsythia flower for the first time and they are nestled on our herb drying rack.

Speaking of forsythia, we will be listing it for preorder this week (probably mid-week, after the 20 degree nights coming up) for the Kentucky Flower Market. Let me take a moment to talk about how awesome they are. We cut a couple of large branches and stuck them in big milk jug cans on the front porch. Both sustained 50 mile an hour winds and look amazing, 3 days in. I laid one of them on the porch for the windstorm and popped it back in the jug when it was over.
If you are planning an indoor or outdoor event in the next week or two and need some big branches (at least three feet), we can cut you some for $3.00 a stem. They are magical! Cutting them big also allows us to prune them back a bit too! Win-win. Of course, we also have single 16-24” 10 stem bunches for $11.00, but the gigantic, unruly, sprays are so much more fun, in my opinion. They only flower for a couple weeks per year. If you are local, we can arrange pick-up here. The time is NOW.

Saturday, after prepping our turnip bed, we celebrated Maplefest at Turtleback Ridge Brewery and were just blown away by the love from seeing all of the amazing people we have come to know there. We arrived in the early evening and heard that we missed the big crowd and it was still jamming! It was one of those magical days where you don’t even get to talk to everyone that you know and manage to meet a couple of new faces in the process. That is a sign of a blessed life. I bet those 1100 or so billionaires in the US might not ever have the pleasure of experiencing such joy. Too bad for them. I took one photo on the way out of the sunset. They have the best sunsets there.

Pride Update: This week we got to help out another pride near Lexington. Their caretakers (and great friends of ours) are building them a catio and asked us to come help out for the day. It is going to be magnificent! By the time we wrapped up for the day, we had the posts set and the frame outlined and secured. I cannot wait to see the finished product!! You will meet Ele and Gibson at Earth Day (Holler Hag) and have a chance to support their pride by snagging one of their beautiful artistic creations made from ethically sourced natural materials.

PS: Thank you to Erica Chambers at Dirt Pearls for this amazing feature on YouTube and beautiful photo!
