April 25th, 2026: Third Annual Earth Day Celebration at Loving Farm! Mark your calendars. We will be having a day filled with fun and music, food and makers!
Hi Flowerers!
Happy six-year anniversary of seeing Loving Farm for the first time on December 14, 2019.

We were initially looking for a weekend place to transition into a forever spot while living in the city when we found Florence Lane on a Zillow listing. You can still see the pictures of how the inside looked before we moved in. The night before the showing, we were throwing axes with friends and family in Covington, celebrating my birthday, excitedly showing them pictures of it from our phones, already dreaming of the possibilities. The guy we purchased it from was here when we arrived and had turned on the propane heater in the den to warm it up a little, but it was a relatively mild day.
There was artwork hanging on the walls with ducks on them, and the room below the den was said to have been used for their outside cats to sleep in. The creek was moving nicely and the grass was green.
After checking this place out, the real estate agent took us to several other properties to consider, many being land with no home on them. This one just stuck out. We put an offer in before the end of the year, then COVID happened and we were worried the bank might not approve a second home in light of the pandemic, but April 1, 2020 we took over care of this piece of the Earth and the buildings which have been built upon it. Room by room, we continue to breathe some more life into it, just enough to keep it going until the next people hopefully follow behind us.
A few months ago Perriee and I were approached to be subjects for a documentary film class made by students from Morehead State. After the interview portion was complete we went into that old self reflection spiral of how we felt like we sounded like complete idiots! Well, I present to you the link from Dani Vigil who hopefully got an A+ on this for her editing skills because it is amazing. When people ask me about our farm, I often find it difficult articulating the depth of feeling we have for being here and walk away feeling flat. This five-minute video explains so perfectly what we hoped to convey as stewards of this space. I hope we can keep a link to it on website’s About Us page. It is such a gift.
Our hand-tied holiday wreath making workshop was so much fun and was definitely a “pinch me” moment in terms of employment and being at a job. The weather was nice so we were able to set up in the greenhouse with so many gorgeous ingredients, all grown here on our farm (not the lemons, those were dried here though!). “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” – Wayne, Letterkenney The group ended up being small, and we feel that the cozy groups suit us well, having a chance to offer some fun snacks on my mom’s nice Fingerhut China and get a chance to chat with one another or just enjoy the peace and quiet in a safe space. Next time we have an offering such as this, we will be capping tickets at four people. If you have friends or family coming to town and need something fun to do with them, especially in the colder months, we would love to help.

In light of finding ways to cut spending and live smaller, we chose to cut our portalet rental for month to month usage, utilizing them instead only for bigger events such as Earth Day when we will probably spring for two. We have a Trelino composting toilet in the Flower Studio now but it is currently for sale for $200, we can arrange pickup somewhere if needed. It is barely used, very clean and we have some bags to go along with it. After trying to be fancy with the sleek design, our preference has taken us back to the good ole’ five gallon bucket system, which we will be building two of when with the funds we get from selling it. We don’t personally like the number 1 and 2 sections of it, and instead like everything going in one hole, to get covered up completely with shavings. In the meantime, hosting small groups will also allow using the regular potty in the house, which will give the kitties a chance for a few pets as they pass through.

On the way out of the house, our guests will be met with our new, sleek paint job we completed on the exterior wall of the den which faces the duck run. Inspired by Banyan Bridges, we used a combination of our old paints to paint the wood paneling. After working on the room underneath it this week, and having re-framed and insulated the wall under the front deck, (with a temporary fix on the outside until we get the porch pulled off)we feel pretty good about leaving that wall intact in the den, planning on removing the paneling on the adjoining walls to peek behind for water damage those as we continue to update the room. Even the door got a refresh, being a mixture of the dark green and yellow paints. It is such a fun color now! The project did not require one new can of paint.

In addition to getting the wall downstairs insulted and covered with foil wrap, we added a piece of plastic over the side-door’s screen window and purchased some weather sealant for that exterior door, all in preparation for the super cold temps we had rolling into town.

Amtrack: Cincinnati to Maysville: If anyone ever wanted to have a fun staycation in our neck of Kentucky, consider a train ride from Cincinnati to Maysville. It takes just as long to ride as drive, about an hour and a half, and you could rent a car to bop around town in while visiting. There are bed and breakfast type places around to stay at, you can eat at Babz Bistro and Lil Jumbos, and you can reserve some time here for a dried flower workshop and walk around the farm. Just sayin…
Pride update (meow): At the time of you reading this, Gray has finished her medicine! Not many sightings of the new gentlemen tomcats by the house. Max stepped in some paint and we managed to keep his foot from hitting any of the rugs while we walked behind him and wiped up his footprint. Otherwise, all is quiet on the feline front, which is just how we like it.
