Important dates:
November 29: Small Business Saturday at Turtleback Ridge Brewery: Come make your own wreath or purchase one from us all ready to hang! Shop our catnip kickers and other goodies we will have along with the other vendors who will be there. Portions of every sale or dollar spent to support our small farm go directly to the care of the 5 beautiful kitties and 5 beautiful ducks we care for.
December 1: Monthly email subscription giveaway drawing!
December 9 and 10 we are hosting two separate hand-tied evergreen wreath making classes where you will go home with your very own design to get you through the winter months. We have white pine and forsythia in abundance. We will try to make one this week to post on social media to show you what we have in mind. There are 6 spots available at each session, both taking place from 2:00-5:00 PM, setting up in the greenhouse or the Flower Studio, depending on the weather. Rest assured, there will be fresh baked bread involved. Register here!
April 25th, 2026: Third Annual Earth Day Celebration at Loving Farm! Mark your calendars. We will be having a day filled with fun and music, food and makers!
Hi Flowerers!
Cheers to nine years. We were so relieved this week to see in the news that our marriage will be protected for now. It was an absolute pleasure celebrating with some friends who popped by for our potluck this week, enjoying the cool weather outside, with some dessert around the fire barrel. THANK YOU FOR THE CAKE! Oh my gosh, I ate my adult pea soup, veggie rice stir fry and lentil patty as fast as possible so I could get to dessert. It was an apple cake with coconut topping and we might have had it for supper on Friday evening after a long day in the flower cooler, which is coming along. Stay tuned for another potluck date. We should be having another one in December.

As far as the flower cooler build goes, we teeter pretty evenly by saying, “this is probably as good as if we paid someone to do it” and, “omg, it looks horrible” but either way we are quite sure it is going to hold temperature to keep some blooms fresh for the coming season. If we could do it again, it would be better but I don’t think we will be building out another cooler anytime in this life. You could see and feel the skill level developing with each panel we cut, glued, and applied to the walls. Been there, done that. Blessings to those that work with these building materials for their job, in whatever capacity. They are pretty raunchy. Having the last of the FRP hung gets us to the next step of having the CoolBot installed. It also makes me feel like we have arrived at the end of an epic adventure movie where the characters fought mystical creatures and traversed rivers and climbed mountains. We feel such relief and are looking forward to getting back into the Flower Studio to do flower things!

Lets talk about cats. You probably know that Tux is the one cat we care for currently that we actively sought out to adopt as a friend for Mr. Mittens after he finished grieving the loss of his four-legged companions(his three-legged Pyrenees friend was still alive at the time). January 1, 2017 is when Tux joined our family. The other four, Gray, Max, Oscar and George, in order of arrival, adopted us. Be careful what you wish for, because I am certain that little Marietta would be pleased as punch to know that middle aged Marietta ended up with 6 cats at one point. Mr. Mittens had us maxed out when he was with us. They have been keeping us busier than usual in the last couple of weeks with some vet appointments.
Gray, our little bobtail kitty has been battling some GI issues for the last year (she’s gonna be ok) so we managed to bag up her little semi-feral body and shlep her to our far-away vet for another look, after having given it a shot here with the local vet. We seem to have a good plan of action to see if we can get her back to functioning better. It turns out she has feline coronavirus and a parasite that we are going to be medicating her for twice a day for the coming week or two to see if we can’t get her insides more regulated. Being the “no-holding” variety of cat, that entails mixing her medicine in her food and sitting with her while she chokes it down, twice a day. Yes, this is why we don’t go out of town. We want to shout out the amazing donor who covered her bill for that vet visit last week! It was a lot, and we were prepared to make it work without the support, but the help was beyond appreciated and went right back into the kitties.

Tux had a visit this week for a tweak of something going on in his caboose. Again, let us know if you want the deets, otherwise, we will spare you. Perriee noticed he seemed extra interested in his rear end, and with all of the fluff it takes a little finesse to check it out. We gave him some spa treatments this week, but with his history of bladder crystals, he is a bit of a delicate flower so Perriee took the shift to take him back to the far-away vet for a peek while I stayed back and planted a few bulbs of garlic.

Tux’s prescription wet food is $75 for 24 cans which lasts him a little over three weeks for this condition he has, which revealed itself a few months after adopting him. The other kitties get Friskies canned (100% not sponsored) and dry food, which is much more affordable, but multiplied by 4 does add up to many Chewy boxes per month. All of these visits and fancy medications and food got us to thinking that we need to try to set up a fund of some sort for our pet care, which includes the ducks as well, although, knock on wood is going swimmingly right now. As it stands, you can rest assured that any purchase of anything we sell from our farm probably goes towards the care of the kitties and ducks, but we also know there are people out there that enjoy supporting critters when they can. When I was working the seat job, I used to donate a few dollars here and there to our favorite duck rescues and loved being able to do so.
Be on the lookout for a fresh page of our website that will be dedicated to our fur and feathered friends with a place to donate to directly to their care. It would be a dream to have a little something stashed away for vet visits as they arise, because they will come. Additionally, if there ever was extra fundage at the time a new guy or gal showed up looking for a home, we could use it to get them spayed or neutered with a quickness, as that is the rule for food here. Ask George and Gray, as they both fell into that trap, literally. Our neighbors took care of Max because many folks around here share the same sentiment of keeping the population down however possible, and Oscar came ready to roll. #blessed. We always wonder if someone is missing him because he is just so adorable and cuddly and kind.
In the meantime, remember that our catnip is all homegrown and chemical free, so if you have any special feline friends in your life who need a catnip kicker or some flower, let us know how we can help get it to you!! We can definitely ship the kickers anywhere stateside. They are $10 each and made with up-cycled denim or khaki. Yeah, pants. The kitties love them and I can assure you they are more durable than the bananas or rainbows you have seen online. George can destroy those right out of the Chewy box (also, not sponsored. Just giving you that mental push. haha)! You can also book a nature-walk and flower bar day anytime. We can learn about some of what is growing on the farm and make a craft for you to take home made from things grown right here on the farm.

Perriee and I did not intend on having five cats, but here we are. We love giving them the best life possible, including medical attention when needed. The support they provide in turn is unmatched. Being here on the farm with the two of us humans, you better believe the cats and ducks are as much of companions to me as any person is, maybe more-so on many fronts. Going through cancer treatment this past summer, Nurse Oscar jumped up on my lap every morning for my cat therapy, snuggling against my chest with his deep purring. It was so healing. We don’t intend on acquiring more, and have adopted out the last lady that showed up (Ms. Pepper, living her best life in Cleveland). Thanks to my aunties who loved cats as much as I do now. Both of my parents have a sister who was entranced by their charm and showed me how to love them. I can still remember the excitement I felt visiting each of their homes as a child, getting to sit with their prides.
In closing, please check out these beautiful wreaths that the lovely couple made with the flowers we designed for their celebration of love earlier this month. We gifted two of our grapevine wreath bases (and a catnip kicker) for them both to make their own designs with, using the dried flowers they got to keep (the vase rental thing) and wow…breathtaking! I broke out in i brividi when I saw the photo and wanted to share it here, mostly so I can go back and gaze at their creations whenever I need a flower fix. Flowers just don’t quit! Have an amazing week!
